What counts as a cold plunge?

Also called: cold water immersion, CWI

Cold plunge

A cold plunge is deliberate full-body immersion in cold water, typically between 39°F and 59°F, for a few minutes at a time. The vessel can be anything from an insulated barrel filled with ice to a refrigerated tub with filtration and app control. The defining feature is immersion depth and water temperature, not the equipment.

Why it matters when you are comparing products

Because the term covers both a $60 inflatable tub and a $14,000 stainless system, comparing on price alone is meaningless. What separates them is whether anything keeps the water cold for you.
