The heat exchanger is the coil where refrigerant draws heat out of the water, so it sits in constant contact with the water supply. Titanium is used because it resists corrosion from ozone, salt and sanitiser chemicals that would pit copper or steel over time. It is the standard material in chillers intended for treated water.
Why it matters when you are comparing products
A corroded heat exchanger can leak refrigerant into the water. On a chiller you intend to run with ozone or any sanitiser, coil material is a durability specification worth checking.
